Great College Advice To Make Great Strides
At college, the pressure is on like nothing you have experienced thus far! Try to keep it all in perspective and keep your focus on graduation. Your success in college is dependent on your dedication and persistence and a willingness to go the whole nine yards. The following article has some good advice to help you get there.
Flash cards are not just a helpful tool for younger children; they can really help you with your college classes as well. In addition to them being a great visual tool for helping you to remember important information, they are also easy for you to carry around wherever you go.
To help you memorize important information write it using a fuschia colored ink pen. Studies have shown that using this colored pen helps trigger the memory receptors in your brain. However, do not write any extra information in this colored ink. Instead, only use it for the information that needs to be memorized.
Try not to go home every weekend, especially if you are homesick. The best way for you to get over the move is to become comfortable and to go out with the people that are in your college. This is also the time when you can have the most fun on campus, so maximize this opportunity.
If you are having any sort of emotional problems while in college, you shouldn't hesitate to visit your college counseling center. After all, that is what it is there for. Whether is grades, a break up or anything else that is troubling you, your counselor is there to help.
Don't forget to do your laundry. Laundry is notoriously thrown by the wayside by many college students. Not only that, many students devise their own ways of cleaning certain items and forgetting the others. Make sure to do your laundry, all of it, every week so that you are always looking and smelling fresh.
If you have a lot of school books to carry, invest in a wheeled backpack. Studies have found that students who continually carry heavy backpacks are prone to back pain and even damage to the spinal cord. It is easy to avoid this as rolling backpacks are easy to find and affordable.
Take advantage of activities and facilities available on your college's campus. Many campuses offer a variety of free and inexpensive events for students, from concerts to movie showings. They also have fitness centers, pools, and other recreational facilities. You can also join clubs or groups centered around your hobbies, religion, and more.
Carefully consider each purchase, big and small. If you are paying for tuition with student loans, paying them off should be your top priority. Don't waste your money on pizza, clothing and entertainment--at least not all of it. Sock away as much as possible to repay those loans. Otherwise, you will be swimming in even more debt by the time you graduate.
As soon after class as possible recopy your notes. Any review you do should be done very quickly after class and then again a few days later. Typing your notes is highly recommended because it will help you learn and organize the material. It will also be easier to review them before tests if they are neatly typed and organized. Additionally, it's easier to participate in study groups and share your information if it's in a format others can decipher!
Make contacts while you are in school that you can use when you get out. If you really enjoy a particular professor's class, make an effort to get to know that professor in addition to pushing yourself to become an outstanding student. The contacts you make now will help you establish and move forward in your career in the years to come.
College is too important not to give it your all, no matter what you face throughout your collegiate career. Hopefully, this article has given you some very useful advice that will help make college life easier for you and getting to that all important graduation day with confidence a little less challenging.
