Check your surroundings before setting up camp for any wasp nests or ant hills that could cause you problems. Wear long pants and long-sleeved whenever possible and inspect yourself for ticks occasionally.

Do not forget to buy a good hat for your camping trip. This is essential because it will keep the sun off of your head and face when it is warm. Hats are good when you are camping in the cold as well, since they keep all of the heat from escaping your body from the top of your head.

Make sure you have a first aid kit with you. As an alternative, you could pack some supplies in a plastic bag. While hopefully your trip will be free of injuries, you never know. It is best to be prepared so that you can handle anything that happens in the best way possible.

Bring insect repellent to keep all of the bugs off of you during your camping trip. You want to enjoy yourself as much as possible throughout your trip, and insects can make your trip a bad experience. Take insect repellent and spray and put some traps all around your camp to keep the bugs away.

A week or so before your next camping trip, start saving scrap paper for kindling. Just keep a separate trash bag in the home or office, and toss any paper designated as trash in it. When you reach your campsite, you have quick and ready fire-starter material, and can use the empty bag for trash from the trip.

When you are camping, a necessity for your gear is a survival knife. This is the most important part of your camping gear. Buy a high quality survival knife, not just the cheapest you can find, your life may depend on it. These knives are all very similar; they have a long blade serrated on one side and a hollow handle. Inside the handle you can carry fishing line, hooks, a compass, and matches as a small survival kit.

Keep the environment in mind when you are at your campsite. Enjoying nature is one of the main benefits of camping, so it is important to respect the Earth. Throw away all your trash, and don't get too rowdy. You can even bring along a solar powered device if you have one to use.
