What You Need To Do About Your Back Pain
Every year, doctors around the world receive patients who suffer from back pain. The pain affects areas of the back and also causes pain in surrounding areas, such as arms, legs, hand, and feet. The following article will give you tips to prevent back pain and avoid a doctor visit.
If you have disk problems, avoid sitting for long periods of time. People suffering from disk problems should be careful not to sit in the same position for too long. When you have to sit, use a lumbar cushion or recline the seat backwards to alleviate stress on the spine. If you are going on a long car journey, use the previous tips, and don't forget to pull over regularly so you can take the pressure off your spine and stretch your legs.
When moving an object, try to push it rather than pulling. If you need to move a large item, stand close to it while tightening your stomach muscles, and push with both arms. By pushing the item, you are using your stomach muscles, as opposed to pulling, which puts intense strain on your back, possibly causing you to injure yourself.
If you need to do a lot of reading while at work, try to do it away from your computer. Extensive reading off of a computer screen tends to lead to hunching over and other bad posture habits. Instead, print out the reading material or save a copy on a tablet device; then, sit in a chair that is more conducive to good reading posture.
Don't try to lift up items that are too heavy for you. If you try to lift up an item and your muscles are unable to support the weight, you risk doing permanent damage to your back. If you need something heavy moved, make sure you ask a strong friend to help you or use a piece of mechanical lifting equipment.
If you are sitting in a chair working at a desk, make sure your chair has good support and is the right height. You should never have to strain to get on or off a chair. If you are not comfortable, any office supply store will carry a variety of chairs.
Make sure you're drinking enough water every day. With seventy percent of our bodies being water, it's important that we keep hydrated. Water can keep your body loose and fluid rather than stiff. Staying hydrated will also keep your intervertebral disks functioning as shock absorbers to take a lot of the pressure off the rest of the body.
Always make sure that you have a lot of water that your are drinking throughout the day. The more water your drink, the more fluid your back will be instead of stiff. Water also enhances the heights of invertebrate disks, which are your bodies natural shock absorbers, so you really want them working for you!
Taking a warm bath can help relive any type of musculoskeletal pain. Warm water tends to be very soothing. Spend about 20 minutes in the tub a day, and if your back is really bad you can do this a couple of times a day (as long as your skin is okay). Adding some aromatherapy oil can also be helpful.
When you have a back spasm, alternate the use of warm and cold compresses on your back, at about 15 minutes apart. The cold contracts your muscles while the warmth relaxes them. As your muscles go through this contraction and relaxation, your muscles will release tension and the spasm will stop.
Do not lift anything that is too far away from you. Always move closer to the object and do not twist around to grab something like in the back seat of a car for example. Do not extend from the couch and reach for things that are too far away either.
As stated before, back pain does not only affect the back, as the name implies. The pain starts in an area of the back and migrates to other areas of the back and body, when left untreated. Use the tips from this article to prevent your back pain from spreading throughout your body
