Planning A Camping Trip? Try These Tips!

It was not that long ago that camping was the vacation of choice among families. Packing up the tent, the cooking utensils and the car full of food and heading off to a natural spot to enjoy lots of fresh air, non-electronic games and sometimes a spot of fishing. If this is not a treat you have yet enjoyed, read on for some great ideas for your next camping trip.

While camping, remember that your food is more likely to attract animals than anything else. Not only should you store your food in safe locations, but you should avoid dumping bacon grease, vegetable peelings or other food waste anywhere near your campsite. These morsels can not only attract raccoons, skunks and bears, but ants and bees, too.

Budget for your camping trip. It's easy to assume that your trip will be cheap, but that's not always the case. You need to make sure you factor in things like gas to get to the campsite and any special gear you have to purchase. Be sure to also include food and sundries.

Be aware of the wildlife where you are setting up camp. You do not want to set up in a place where the opossums, racoons and skunks have already called home. Learn the signs of the animals so you can find a safe place to set up camp without worrying as much about these animals at night.

Some of the best food options to bring camping with you are things that come in cans. While this may not be the tastiest, it is great for two reasons. It is very convenient and easy to prepare, but more importantly, wildlife will be unable to smell the food inside of the cans.

A good multi-purpose tool needs to be part of your camping gear. There are two kinds to bring. First is the saw/hammer/axe 3-in-1 tool to use for firewood and other chores. The other is the standard multi-purpose tool with a variety of tools on it like a can opener, tweezers, scissors, and a knife.

Know what is available in the area around your campsite. You may get lucky and have beautiful weather the entire time. However, you may also face inclement weather, too. Have a backup plan in case you need a diversion. This is particularly crucial if you have kids, but adults need a little entertainment as well!

Does your camping canteen have a weird smell? Put a few teaspoons of baking soda in your musty canteen with some water. Put the lid on and swish it around. Let it sit for about an hour and then pour the mixture out. Rinse the canteen with fresh water and it will be as good as new.

When you're finished camping and ready to go home, you should pick up after yourself. Keeping nature clean and preserved can allow future campers to enjoy it too. Before you leave, clean up any messes you've made at your site and try your best to leave nature as you originally found it.

Before you start a campfire at your campsite, rake around the fire pit and remove any debris that could catch fire. Encircle your fire pit with rocks if possible and make sure that any surrounding areas cannot catch fire from your pit. Not only does your fire area look better, but it is safer as well.

An indispensable item to pack for your camping trip is Ziploc bags. You can separate items in your gear like sunscreen and bug spray so if they puncture they do not get all over your gear. You can also use them to keep items like matches and cellphones dry if it rains.

As you can now see, it's pretty easy to go camping while working with a limited budget. There is affordable camping equipment out there for anyone to use, all you have to do is find it and buy it. You feel better knowing that your camping trip didn't cost you an arm and a leg.
