Remember to use moderation; you don't want to add too much salt to your ingredients. Any salt on your cutting board can stick to the herbs you are chopping and enhance their flavor.

If you are cooking a meal for some important occasion, stick with a tried and true recipe. Do not attempt to whip up a new dish or use an ingredient you have never used before. You will be more comfortable cooking, and there will be less of a risk of messing it up.

The are many varieties of potatoes, and some cannot be used as substitutes for other varieties. Waxy potatoes are best for potato salad and should be avoided when making mashed potatoes or french fries. Russet potatoes are best suited for baking or mashing, or for making french fries.

Make sure you are using sharp knives to prepare your food. You are more likely to injure yourself using a dull knife. Use a sharp knife and it will glide right through the items you wish to cut, without you having to put a great amount of force behind the blade.

Set both your oven timer and the timer on your watch. If you wear a stopwatch on your neck or use the timer on a watch, you will make sure that the beeps are heard no matter your location.
