Look down at things from high up, or get down on the ground, and look up at them. Consider experimenting with the way you compose your images with different sideways angles.
It may seem like a simple concept, but the way in which you hold your camera can have a huge impact on your resulting photographs. Knowing this will keep you from having shaky or blurred images. Hold your arms close in to your sides and your non-dominant hand should be the one supporting the lens.
Experiment with your flash until you have a good feel for its range. Your photo may appear dark if you are not aware of the range before taking the photo. It's a good idea to take some practice pictures with your flash so that you can learn its range.
